Earlier this month, we had the opportunity to sit down with Brad Nycz, Director of Enterprise Executive Relationship Management, for our latest episode of The Experience Expert. In this insightful conversation, Brad shared his expertise on employee retention, featured on the latest Working Smarter Café podcast. If you haven’t listened yet, be sure to check it out here!
As always with The Experience Expert, we mix thought leadership with a tactical element. Today, we’re diving into different ways you can leverage your UKG Ready solution to help retain employee
Onboarding
As Brad said in our podcast episode, the era of the 30-year employee is gone. Employees aren’t staying for 30 years and organizations are not expecting them to. However, retaining employees beyond their first year is crucial for any organization. One of the key factors in achieving this is ensuring a proper onboarding and ramp-up period. Effective onboarding can significantly influence whether employees stay past their first 90 days. Make sure to take advantage of the UKG Ready Onboarding dashboard tab, found in the Dashboard Tab Library (Settings > Profiles/Policies > Dashboard Layout > Dashboard Tab Library).
Utilizing this allows you to put the necessary information a new employee needs in their first couple weeks at the organization on one dashboard. You can add widgets so new employees can see their new hire checklists that need to be completed and their completion status, link to the UKG Ready mobile app to download, the office location, and so much more!
Succession Planning
Limited career advancement is a major factor in why employees leave an organization. It’s important for employees to see a future within the company and see their careers progressing. Succession planning is vital and helps develop potential leaders for your organization. Consider using our succession planning tools to begin planning for your employees’ future. The Succession Planning functionality can help you identify, track, and transition these employees into key positions when they become vacant. Succession profiles are made up of metrics. You can use our default metrics (Potential, Readiness, Performance, Impact of Loss, and Risk of Loss) or build your own custom ones. What better way to source talent than looking internally? Check out this blog for more ways you can use UKG Ready to fuel your employees’ growth, source talent from within, or navigate to Settings > HR Setup > Succession Planning to explore the functionality first-hand.
Recognition through Incidents
Ensuring your employees are recognized for their work and feel seen is an essential part of employee retention. When employees don’t feel appreciated, they’re more likely to start looking for new opportunities elsewhere. Leveraging the Incidents functionality can be an interesting and creative way to start recognizing your employees for the work they’ve done. Contrary to popular belief, using our Incidents functionality doesn’t have to be for negative, policy violations. You can create Incident categories and workflows for recognition that users can submit to recognize employees for a job well done or going above and beyond. Navigate to Settings > HR Setup > Incidents > Incident Types to create a new recognition Incident Type.
Surveys
Finally, to retain your employees, it’s important to understand how they’re feeling. While some may have survey fatigue it’s important to check in on how your employees are feeling towards work and the organization periodically. You can do this through our Surveys functionality. Set up quick pulse surveys once a quarter to a specific group of employees or consider doing a more in-depth engagement survey once or twice a year. Navigate to Settings > HR Setup > Surveys and begin to add new or pre-defined surveys today!
Review the HR User Guides under My Info > Help > Online Documentation to learn more about these features and how to configure them. Don’t forget to check out our Experience Expert: Employee Retention podcast with Brad Nycz today.
